Itinerary

We kick off the adventure with a scenic ride from Hanoi toward the lush valley of Mai Chau. The route takes us through winding mountain roads and over the stunning Thung Khe Pass, where panoramic views of misty limestone peaks and green valleys stretch endlessly below.

Stop for local snacks and photos before descending into Mai Chau — a peaceful valley surrounded by rice paddies and traditional stilt houses of the White Thai people. In the evening, enjoy local food, rice wine, and perhaps a traditional dance performance.

Today’s ride follows quiet backroads through charming rural scenes, crossing rivers and rolling hills dotted with tea plantations. We take a local ferry across the Da River, a highlight in itself, before climbing the winding Hua Tat Pass — a forgotten gem offering stunning mountain and valley views.

Along the way, you’ll meet friendly villagers, see daily life unfold, and ride through landscapes where nature remains wild and untouched. Phu Yen welcomes us with peaceful charm and the warmth of local hospitality.

Today’s ride takes us along the epic Dinosaur Backbone Ridge, winding through Trạm Tấu and venturing onto off-road and backroad trails that showcase the northern highlands in all their glory. Stop for panoramic views of terraced rice fields before crossing the famous Khau Phạ Pass, one of Vietnam’s “Four Great Passes.”

Continue to La Pán Tẩn and Mu Cang Chai, riding through the heart of the region’s world-famous terraces framed by towering mountains and lush valleys. This is a day full of challenging curves, breathtaking scenery, and pure riding joy.

Leaving the terraces behind, we ride through hidden valleys and winding roads that cut through ethnic villages before tackling the legendary O Quy Ho Pass — the gateway to Sapa. At over 2,000 meters, this is one of Vietnam’s highest and most dramatic mountain routes, offering spectacular views of Fansipan, the “Roof of Indochina.”

Descend into the misty valley of Sapa, a town renowned for its rugged beauty and vibrant culture. Visit Hmong, Dao, and Tay villages, interact with locals, and soak in the highland atmosphere. The combination of mountain riding, cultural encounters, and breathtaking vistas makes this day a highlight of the entire journey.

We leave Sapa behind and descend toward Thac Ba Lake, Vietnam’s largest man-made lake surrounded by green hills and palm-covered roads. The route includes scenic backroads and occasional off-road sections passing through remote villages and tea plantations.

By afternoon, we reach Vu Linh, a peaceful Dao village by the lake. Our hosts welcome us with open arms, delicious home-cooked food, and local rice wine. Tonight is all about sharing stories, laughter, and the warmth of true Vietnamese hospitality.

After breakfast, take a short walk along the lake before our final stretch back to Hanoi. The road winds through tea hills, quiet villages, and gentle mountain scenery, offering a peaceful finale to our Northwest expedition.
